.45ACP Compensators vs. Standard?

EQUALIZER

Was planning on building a comp gun on a 1911 platform for CC, fun shoot competition w/family and friends, etc. No fancy IPSC ray gun w/optics. Cost isn't a factor since I'd be paying only a little more for a triple (plus 2 lateral) port fully expansion chamber LSP, which is 1.5" .

Q: Since I don't shoot comps, nor do I have an electronic timer, has anyone timed how much faster a string can be shot at a single target from a full comp in 45 as oppossed to a standard 1911?

My guess, only a slightly educated one is that 45ACP (and the higher pressured 45 Super) does not have enough pressure, like 38 Super and the 9's, to keep a comp gun very level. Maybe I'd be best getting a Chandler Arms Ultra Recoil Reduction Rod or something similar? Any experiences with 45 comps/timed?

EQUALIZER, I have a kimber custom with a fitted comp bushing. It's similar to the one Wilson sells but it doesn't drop in,it had to be fitted. I also have a Harrt's recoil reducer I use sometimes without the comp. The comp bushing definately works better, less recoil and shoots tighter groups than with the stock bushing.

It sounds like the sight pick up is much faster w/the bushing comp than with the Harrts? Do the hot loads work much better in the comp than the standard soft ball?

I reload and I don't shoot alot of hot loads. It definately works better with the comp bushing than without on my loads. You also can change the gun back and to a normal in couple of minutes. I got one that needed fitted because some of the ones that drop in were made to fit anything and they fit sloppy, making the gun inaccurate.

So you are talking about the kind of comp that takes the place of the bushing and has an inside diameter greater than the outside barrel dia, allowing the barrel to pass through it. I thought that it might be a thread on type before reading your post more carefully. Sounds like it works pretty good. Do you think the increase in accuracy is due to the trigger control response to less recoil, or is it just a tighter bushing than the standard bushing you have?

I think the increase in accuracy was a little of both. The inside diameter of comp bushing was pretty close but I had to take quite a bit off the outside diameter to fit the slide. Also either 2 piece or short guide rods, no 1 piece long rods or you can't get the comp bushing off to take the gun apart.
