Anybody load 500gr Hornady softpoints with
IMR 4064. I did, with some amazing results
and am curious if anyone else has had this
kind of chrono results?
Carl I did a few years ago and was so disappointed I looked hard at the 400 grain Barnes X bullets. I was able to jack them up to over 2300 fps.
If your getting much more than 2100 fps, you may want to calibrate your chrono or move the screens out a bit furthur. Had problems with both in the past.
Gizmo, I loaded according to Hornady man. &
use 70gr IMR 4064 & 75gr (max) and achieved
2300fps with 70gr load AND 2654 fps with the
75gr. Chrono is exact and distance from
muzzle was 20ft. I was just curious about
the results I got from the 75gr load; it sure
seemed to be awful fast. I had no pressure
signs of any kind and double checked all
results, with 2 different chrono tests.
Those velocities 2,600+ fps. are definatly worng. Those are what I get with 120 grs of 4350 behind a 500 gr bullet out of my .460 Weatherby. It is probably the chrono, sometimes they act wierd.
