454 primer problems..

FWIW...My friend was shooting his 454 SRH this week-end. With Hornady factory loads some primers would back out so badly it'd lock up the cylinder. I did a search and saw some guys have had problems with case splits with Hornady. No problems with W-W. We will probably try some Starline brass. Anyone else have this problem?? Your experience and thoughts appreciated.

We were also shooting my 45 Bisley alongside the 454. I can shoot 100 straight of 1400 fps 255's with no problem. A few 454's were way plenty. Major jump in personal pain going to the 454.

Have your friend take the revolver to a pistolsmith and have the headspace checked. That would be a good starting point.

Hornady made some .454 loads with soft brass. Lot numbers end in 99 or 00, if I remember right. They will replace them.
