Finally getting serious about scoping my SRH .454 and would appreciate any experiance/advice. Go with a 2x scope or are there electronic red dot scopes that can take the punishment?
I bought a 2x Leupold for my Raging Bull, have yet to put it on, but, should work ok.......another good scope is the Bushnell 2-6x that used to be made by B&L..........Burris is another.......I have a Simmons 2.5-7x Gold Medal on my 375JDJ, Leupold 2.5-8x on my Savage Striker in 308, a T/C scope on my Contender in 44 Mag.......one of these days will try Redfield scopes also......
Thanks guys, so far is sounds like the Leupold or Burris for the 2x, but any experiance with a red dot electronic site like an AimPoint or the Holo site?
I have a Leupold 2X EER scope that has seen use on 3 different 44 Mag revolvers with no problems. The scope is very compact and light - but the optics are very sharp and crisp , very highly defined plex reticle. An excellent revolver scope. The only drawback for some might be lack of click adjustments - the scope uses friction style adjustments - which for my revolver uses is not a factor.
I have used Burris handgun scopes mostly on my Contenders. All have been excellent scopes. The same Hi-Lume multicoatings they use in their Signature line is also used in thier Fullfield and handgun scope line.
I've never yet found a red dot scope that would last more than a couple of hundred rounds from a big boomer. The best I've seen was a Tasco Aimpoint (the little thingy that looks like a small windshield on a flat base, not a tube-type sight): that one lasted for a carefully-counted 372 rounds on a Ruger in .44 Magnum. The same sight on a Ruger .454 Casull lasted 27 rounds, I'm told!!!
