.454 Casull question.

I would get the Ruger Super Redhawk they are built like a tank and you can shoot 45LC through it also. Pls Ruger stands behind their products.:)

I always had wanted a .454 but wouldn't spend the money on a FA and when the Taurus came out it felt too bulky in my hands. I waited until Ruger came out with the SRH and I'm glad I did. The Taurus has some features that the SRH doesn't have such as a vented rib and shoter barrel lengths but the SRH is 6 shot and will hold its value a lot better than the Taurus.

I've been pondering the purchase of a 454 for quite some time now and have considered both you mentioned. I agree that the Ruger will probably hold its value better than the Taurus, although I am partial to Taurus'. FWIW, I have a friend who bought a slightly used 454 from someone he knew who bought it, put less than a box of ammo through it, and then sold it due to recoil. He saved a lot of money by going the used route. Look around; you might be able to pick up a used one for a good deal.

Whichever you decide, please post a range report and let us know how you like it and info about any handloads you use with it.

Ruger

My local range had two Taurus Raging Bulls for rent. Both have been sent back multiple times either to have the actions re-timed or to correct a loose cylinder condition. Repairs took appx 6 weeks for each return.

I am a big time Ruger fan.....but, after buying the Taurus Raging Bull, I would have to go with the RB.....I have shot both and my RB really shoots nice.......I have the 8 3/8" barrel and it shoots like my 44 mag super blackhawk with full power loads.....a lot more controlable than the Ruger........

I have the Ruger. Works beautifully in 45 Colt. Works with factory ammunition in 454. Can not get 454 reloads to ignite. This isn't my first attempt at reloading but it is the first gun that I could not get to work with reloads. Sent it back to Ruger but, well, it still hates reloads and I don't know why.

Ken, I have had problems with a Redhawk. Looking around and asking questions (Hamilton Bowen) I have found that there have been problems with the firing pin protrusions. In an email I got back from Mr. Bowen he said he was looking at making a slightly longer firing pin.

I Have the SRH and i love it. Seems like the more i shoot the more the trigger feels like the Freedom Arms 454. Ive had no problems with it. And i love seein heads turn at the range :D Ihavent tried to reload any rounds yet but i dont have a doubt about them working
