.454 Casull in Raging Bull or Ruger Super Redhawk?

Anyone out there able to compare the two? I really want a .454 Casull.
I already have a Redhawk in .44 Magnum and I know how good Ruger revolvers are but I've never owned a Taurus.

I've heard good things about the Raging Bull though.
Oh, and this is my first post since TFL closed!

I never owned Taurus guns ether, and also heard good things about Raging Bull.
But since you already have a Ruger, I’d say go with Taurus.

Raging Bull

The Raging Bull in .480 Ruger has been good for me. Never have owned the .454. Trigger pull in single action is decent and hits where it is pointed.

Anyone seen ANY custom gunsmith building 'fancies' on the Raging Bull platform?

Carpenter 465, man..........

(I have touched two early-production 454 RG's with damaged rear sights.)

Hi. New here - first post, so be gentle.

I've had my Raging Bull .454 for about 4-5(?) years now, and I've yet to have any sign of trouble out of it. It's a fantastic gun. I don't have any experience with any other model of Taurus, but this one is built well and shoots flawlessly. I'm pushing 310 grain LBT's at 1500 fps and feel comfortable shooting any target larger than a gallon jug out to 75 yards or so.

It IS a very heavy gun, but that (along with the mangaporting) helps keep the front sight out of the top of your skull. She kicks like a mule from both ends.

[edit] Oh, and to touch on the Ruger Super Redhawk... I've never fired one in .454, but my brother has one chambered in .45 Long Colt that we load to near the same speeds and it handles it well. Ruger's are beautifully built revolvers any way you cut it... can't go wrong.

Thank ya kindly.

I just stumbled across this forum a few days ago while researching the ol' classic (it seems) .357 all-purpose "backpack/carry/glove box/bear killing" revolver thing... lots of info to be had here, most of it good. Heh.

The Raging Bull sure does seem to shoot softer than the Super Redhawk, although "soft" is a relative term when discussing .454 Casull...

I have not shot or bought a SRH, but I have heard good things about them.

I do have a Taurus RB454 in the pimptastic nickle finish. This gun is definately overbuilt, with good quality all over. The gun has a tight lockup and points well (for such a huge gun).

I have not shot it yet as I am still saving up for 454 ammo.... But so far I am very pleased with the look and feel of the RB454.

Rugers Rule!

I own a Taurus .357mag 6" & a Ruger .44mag Super Red Hawk 9.5", both of which I use for deer hunting. I had the Taurus first & had gotten 1 deer with it with the standard adjustable sights. Then I bought the Ruger with a red dot scope on it & have so far gotten 4 deer in 3 years with it. They both shoot well and have no problems with either, but I personally enjoy the Ruger.
It is so well balanced, & fits nicley in my hand. It's fun to sneak through the woods on a rainy November day with a long barrelled pistol in hand.

I owned both in .454 for awhile. I still have the Super Redhawk. My biggest objection to the Raging Bull was the top ports really increased the muzzle blast. People standing behind me when I shot it commented that it felt like a slap in the face (indoor range). After two shots, the front sight was black. And after 12 shots the muzzle blast gave me a headache.

I couldn't tell much difference in felt recoil between the two when I shot them side by side (one at a time!). The quality on my RB was excellent. If they had made it without ports, I would probably still have it today.

i too owned both and it was my pig gun. whnen i was hunting in thick river bottoms and you shoot the RB you'd be blind for a while. i sold it for a SRH.
