I understand the differences between the the two calibers offered in these two sidearms.

Which has the better reliability record, more accurate...etc, etc, etc.

Please no flames concerning the S&W boycott, any purchase I make will be pre-sellout.

I've owned examples of both. For self-defense use, I think that the.45 would probably be the better choice. Not TOO many people will argue its effectiveness, and the ammo is more plentiful. That, of course, means cheaper practice with which to become proficient.
As to sheer power, and possibly accuracy, the 10mm would take the front seat. You also get one more round on tap. Either one should prove to be as reliable as any pistol can be, and neither of mine ever gave me one hint of trouble. I do think that the 10mm borders on being overpenetrative for CCW situations, but definitely would be the superior hunting cartridge for that same reason. :)

Owning the 4506 and having fired the 1006, VictorLouis has pretty much nailed it on the head and there isn't anything else that I can add to what he said. They're both fine guns.

I`d get the 4506 I had one a few years back and it was very reliable ,never missed a beat .The only thing was it really didnt fit my hand and shot well below pointe of aim ,So i traded it for a Para Ordnance P14 ( great gun) . I kind of wish i had kept it though as it looked awesome.

Oh well live and learn, never trade or sell a good gun!

I carry a 4506 on duty. That gun is one of the best pistols I use. I was issued it in a used condition; it has been more reliable than the Kimber that I bought new (and promptly sold when it would not even feed hardball). Runs like a champ, mags are still plentiful, feeds anything. A shame it is not in the new catalog.
