.45 Super Semiautos

Are there any semiautos out there that can handle .45 Super/.45 SMC right out of the box? Just curious. I hear some people say any good 1911 can do it with a really heavy spring, but will it still function with standard ball ammo? I know .45 Super really isn't useful as a defensive cartridge or anything like that, but it's a neat novelty.

I hear the SOCOM can do it, but in case I can't afford $1800 for a SOCOM, will a regular USP45 do it?

What about the Glock 21?

Sig P220?

CZ97B?

You get the idea.

From what I understand, the HK USP can shoot factory 45 super. Now, handloaded 45 super might be a different matter. I've shot a couple of REALLY HOT hand loaded 45 super that were just amazing. But I doubt any stock gun would have taken those pressures and kept shooting.

Agree with high_caliber.

The Springfield V-16 is made specifically for .45Super (and .45ACP).

I can't think of any other major manufacturers that make a model specifically for .45Super/.45SMC, although there may be one. Other semi-autos can shoot it with the right springs, but I don't know which ones.

Sounds like the perfect excuse to get a Longslide.:)

The full-size HK USP 45 definitely will handle 45 Super, right out of the box. Although I wouldn't try the handloads in it myself, I wouldn't put it past it to handle those as well.

Well, Dan Wesson makes a DA revolver that is made to handle .45 super and a couple of the other .45 ACP knockoffs like 460 rowland.

OK it's not an auto but it exists.

Lots of guns (P220-G20-etc) CAN shoot SUPER but none will as good as the 1911, until heavier recoil springs become available.

Everyone,

When I say the G21 needs a 26-28lb spring instead of the current 24# max, it for OPTIMUM performance. I guess only a 1911 guy would understand. The 1911 has WAY more potential for 10mm/45super from a tuning standpoint.
