Greetings To All; Maybe this is a dumb question; but I keep reading post here
on this forum that states, the H&K USP
can handle .45 Super ammunition without
modification. My question is; what is
.45 Super ammunition? All replies are
welcome, and thanks in advance.

The .45 Super is a proprietary cartridge developed by the late Ace Hindemann.

It has the same exterior dimensions as a .45 ACP, but has thicker brass, enabling it to work at about 28,000 cup, as I recall.

Substantial modifications are needed to make 1911 pattern pistols safe to use with this round. See the Dec '97 American Rifleman, IIRC, for details.

The H&K USP and S&W 625 are the only two .45 ACP handguns of which I am aware which are able to handle the .45 Super right from the box. Springfield and one other manufacturer has been licensed to make .45 Super pistols, both on the 1911 pattern.

If I were shooting .45 Super from my H&K USP, I would install an extra power recoil spring from Wolff gunsprings. Walt

Thanks Walt for the good information; I was
unclear as to what you guy's were talking
about !!!
