.45 Mags - Who's are best?

I keep hearing that a lot of problems with .45's are associated with inferior magazines. Who make the best mags out there these days. Just so folks who don't have much experience get some names to work with.

I think the wilson mags are the best overal, however at $25.00-30.00 ea. they are the most expensive. For the best mags for the money,go with Metalform. You can pick them up for around 16.00.For reliability,I'd go with the 7 rd mags from any mfg.I've found that carrying 8+1 in my 1911's or Sig 220 isn't 100% reliable.

For mags for colts I found that military mags seem to work better then anything.Pivked mine up at gun shows for under 10$.
For my sig I use meggar. They make sig mags anyhow so save bucks there.

Which .45 magazine is best depends on what YOUR pistol functions with, having said that, I have had good luck with USGI (real USGI not the rewrapped, redone ones being offered places), Shooting Stars, Mag-Pac, and the best magazines I have by far are the RANDALL's. Sadly they are out of business and used magazines have been offered at $75.00/each. :(

I've had excellent results w/factory COLT, Wilson, Mec-Gar, Metalform, Pachmayr and GI magazines. I've had poor results w/some unmarked blued and stainless mags.

How does one tell the rewrapped 'GI' mags from real ones. The 'GI' mags I have have a federal part no. stamped on the base.

As was mentioned... which ever ones work best in your particular pistol. I personaly like the Wilsons too. Hawever, Chip McCormick has a new version called the "Pro Mag". I have a friend who has been testing these for about 6 months. No cleaning yet.. and still no feeding problems.

YMMV

I've had excellent reliability with Shooting Star, Mec-Gar, Metalform, and Colt mags which I understand are made by Metalform. Metalform are great mags for the money.

So far Metalform appears to work for me. They are $12.00 each from champions. These are blue, have round metal follower, and have removeable base plates.

I use three ten round mags: Two Wilson's and a McCormick. The Wilson's are flawless -- not one jam/failure-to-feed. The McCormick is also excellent, and somewhat better for concealed carry.

The McCormick PowerMags work in my Commander.

You'll have to try different magazines out in you gun to find a brand that works. No other way to be certain of it.
