.45 magnum

no.

Ok, the .45 Win Mag would fit in the chamber, being .004" undersize at the case head and .007" undersize at the case mouth, but its NOT a good idea, particularly at the pressures involved.

The .45 Win Mag has the same dimensions at each end as the .45ACP case, but is 1.198" long, vs the ACP at .898. The pressure is of course, much higher with the magnum.

I have heard of people taking the .45ACP cylinder of a Blackhawk convertible and having it cut for the .45 Win Mag. But even Ruger uses a separate cylinder for each chambering (.45 Colt/.45ACP).

The listed diameter of the .45 Win Mag at the rim is .480", which is also the listed diameter for the .45Colt case body. (I just checked with .45Win cartridge in a .45 Colt chamber), without a clip to hold it in place, the WinMag falls waaay to far into the .45 Colt chamber for the firing pin to reach it.
If held in the right position with a clip, I still think the undersize case will give you issues, maybe even splitting. Without a clip, it won't work at all.

I would strongly advise against it.

A handful of the very last of the original Auto Mags were in .45WM. Ultra rare.

The Automag IV was available in .45 WM. (different gun than the Auto Mag - note: one word, vs two for the name)

I have a Wildey and a Grizzly in .45 Win Mag, and also a Contender barrel.

Its a neat round. But not a common one.

The .45 WinMag started life as the .45 NAACO in the 1950s as the round for the Canadian North American Arms Co. Brigadier, a prototype based on the Browning Hi-Power.

Winchester apparently rediscovered it and put back on the market as the .45 Win. Mag.

I have seen what must be the only picture of the NAACo Brigadier in Hatcher and others. I knew it was for an oversized .45 but did not realize it was as big as .45 Winchester (Wildey) Mag.

Yes, and the .45 WinMag is merely the same cartridge renamed.

The .45 Win Mag in the Blackhawk is not recommended as the .45 Mag loads are higher pressure than the .45 Colt "Ruger only" loads. NAA had an even longer version called the .450 Magnum Express with a 1.344" case created by Dick Casull. It was the predecessor to his .454 Casull.
