.45 Frustration

I'll admit it, I own only one handgun which is shootable (as opposed to collectable). My 9mm serves me well, but I've been looking for a .45 ACP. First I was gonna buy a Springfield "Loaded" Champion, but I wanted a gun I could jog with that wasn't coked and locked. Next I was looking at a SIG 220, but I would like a consistent trigger pull instead of DA/SA. Today the thought popped into my mind "What about a Glock?" The next thing I know, I'll be wondering where I can get a .45ACP revolver with half-moon clips. I have no big problem with any of the above mentioned guns, it's just that none seem perfect. Grr... It's like I'm looking for the Holy Grail of Handgunning: The perfect .45 handgun. Just needed to vent, thanks.

If you want a consistent trigger pull consider the Sig P220 in DAO, or check out the link to look at the para ordnance LDA .45, its supposed to be DAO that has a very similar trigger to SA. Worth a look. Plus its a 14 + 1 capacity in .45 ACP.

If your gonna jog with it, I'd get a Glock 36. Consistent trigger, thin single stack subcompact pistol, very light, very corrosion (sweat) resistent.

The LDA version of the P-12 is nice but a little heavy for such a compact pistol (34 ounces). I'd have to go with the glock 36.

I'd personally pick one of these four choices: Glock 30, Glock 36, Sig 245 (DAO)and Sig 220 (DAO). All are high quality, accurate, utterly reliable, and relatively light weight. Tough choice!

If you like the 1911 design then carry it NOT cocked and locked.

Just ask yourself how long does it take to cock a 1911. You can throw in all the what if's you can but will that fraction save your life???

Glock 36 if your going to jog with it. Personally I'd opt for a G26 or 27, but if you insist on .45 acp its gotta be the 36.

P.S.,I shot a 36 the other night, very accurate at 21 ft.

C'Boy,

You may want to consider the H&K USP .45 compact:
> Extremely high design and manufacturing quality (the equal of Sig, for example).
> Exceptionally reliable and durable (the equal of Glock, for example).
> Great accuracy (the equal of Kimber, for example).

In addition, you can safely "decock" with one in the chamber (like Sig) or carry safely in condition one (like a 1911A1). H&K's systems provides a series of decocker and safety options that permit the user to decide what's best -- without any compromises.

I'll second the HK choice. If you don't like the DA/SA, you can easily get it converted to DAO.

The first pistol I shot was a 1911. The first pistol I bought, years later was a 1911. I love the SA concept, but since owning an HK I'm DA/SA now. The DA trigger is a good option if you like the ability to pull the trigger and have it go bang every time. I practice almost entirely in SA and DA (as "bad" as HK's are) isn't that much of a problem when I do use it. I do practice my dryfiring almost entirely in DA, however. It just sucks to be limited to cocking the hammer every time or a junky pull at the range. And yes, I have tried several Glocks.

just my pennies...
e!

I'd go with the Glock 36. Recently shot it at the range and loved it. Single stack, consistent trigger pull, and unlike most Glocks good sized grip for someone with regular sized hands. I think I will buy it for an off duty gun. However, one thing with the Glock is the safety. Do not pull that gun out of your means of carry with the finger on the trigger as it will go off. No safety with the Glock but it would probably be the best option for what you are looking for.

All very good choices. Here is another. The Ruger P97 DAO. I can't speak on behalf of the DAO since I own the SA/DA Ruger P97, but mine has excellent accuracy, excellent SA trigger, and a above average DA trigger. I assume the DAO would have an above average DA trigger too.
