.45 Colt Mountain Gun gets Stag grips

The set of stag grips for my N frame .45 Colt S&W Mountain gun came in today. I bought them from longhornguns.com but when I took them out of the box I noticed they had the familar Eagle Grips stamp on the inner surface.
After I installed them I noticed a few high spots so I took the fine sandpaper and steel wool and set about making a SLOW but perfect fit. The grips feel much like the original factory grips found on round butt revolvers. The contour is more or less an oval. It also reminds me of the original factory grips found on the old Speed Six or Service Six. I think the grips of these old Rugers fit my hand better than anything else I have picked up.
I popped off a few rounds after my fitting job. As long as the rounds were within the standard .45 Colt power level the revolver shot like a dream. I think I will like these grips for general carry and light trail use. When I went to a few high power rounds the gun bucked like a bronco. With focus I found that could hang on and shoot pretty darn well even double action. But I also remembered why the rubber Pachmyer and Houge grips were invented. My palm is still tingling as I type.

All in all this is now one classy looking revolver. It has the type of look you would expect on the hip of an explorer or some Indiana Jones type. With my .45 Colt Blackhawk to shoot the really romper stomper bear rounds, if I need them, I think the Mountain Gun loaded with .45 pumpkin roller loads will handle about anything else I might run into and look dern good doing it.

I had about 5 minutes to snap a few photos of the new stag grips before I was hi jacked to go out and eat. Not the best photos I have ever done but you get the idea. I will spend some time tomorrow taking better pics of a similar layout with my Case XX Damascus blade stag handle knife..

I did not notice the flare on this one until I started processing it.

Almost looks to nice to take in the mountains........:(
I said almost:D

I've got a Mount gun too, just haven't found the right grip to replace the Hogues. Somethig rugged, yet "showy", like an old set of target grips fron an old Nframe. Maybe I'll modify the ones I have to fit the round butt.....hmmmmm:confused:
