.45 Colt Lever Action

AL45

I am looking for a NEW .45 Colt Lever Action in the $800.00 range or less. I have handled some Henry .22.s and the forearms were loose, but have never handled their .45 Colt. My cousin likes his Rossi but I am leaning toward a Marlin 1894 Cowboy. What do you guys recommend and what else is available?

New Marlins are supposed to be fixed (good QC now, allegedly), so that's what I'd do, if wanting the cowboy version (the new non-cowboy Marlins are in .44 mag and .357 mag only). But these are a bit heavier than a Rossi.

If scoping it, of course the Marlin or Henry is the way to go. But I know nothing else about the Henrys. Well, except that they are also significantly heavier than the Rossi/LSI.

I've got the '92 Rossi/Legacy sports stainless carbine

Love that gun. The only problem with .45 is that 100 yards is pretty much max for practical use.

I have a couple of Winchester Trappers in .45 Colt. Great little rifles.

I prefer them over the Marlins I have, although I dont "yet" have a Marlin in a pistol caliber. The Winchesters seem better balanced, and their actions are a lot smoother.

MARLIN

The Marlin Cowboy,......blued, forged steel,....Amercan Black Walnut,...... made in USA,....easily handles, "Ruger Only", loads,......ummmm, what's not to like?

The Rossi will too. With the double locking lugs the action is actually stronger than a 94 Winchester.
