45 barrel

The Army used to think that a militry .45ACP barrel nedded to be replaced after fiting 12.000 to 15,000 rounds of GI ammuninion.

I don't remember how many rounds I had fired through the .45 barrel I replaced because it was shot out, but it was well over 20,000 round. There was rifling in the front 1/3 of the barrrel (muzzle end) and it was the barrel that came with pistol, who knows how many rounds went through it.

I have seen charts of 2 different tests on barrel accuracy (neither was a 1911). The accuracy improved to a peak at 4000rds. It stayed at peak until about 8000rds and began a very slow decline. This doesn't tell you much about overall barrel life but something about barrel accuracy life. I would replace a barrel at 20000 rds max to maintain very good accuracy. On the 1911 I prefer the Kart match barrel as replacement.
