does any one have any comments on Israeli arms pistols? is 300.00 a good price for a used commander-type .45? Or should i just save and get either a new or used colt or springfield armory? THANKS

I'd be inclined to save another $200 or so to get a new Springfield myself.

But if you see a solid Norinco lying around for $200 or so, snap it up and invest the money you save in the gun. You won't regret it.

That's been a fairly hot topic lately. They look good, and to my knowledge, only one person on here has actually seen one. He said it had some cosmetic problems but was accurate and very reliable.

Now, that said, the rest of us have had a dickens of a time trying to find these pistols to even look at. And, our e-mails, phone calls, etc, have not been returned. So there is a concern that the company isn't worth a crap, and may not be around to service the guns when needed.

I too think I'd pass unless you can get some form of assurance from whomever is selling it that's it 100% reliable. Better yet, if it's a individual that's selling it, ask him to take (oops, sorry ladies, or her) you to the range and let you try it. Take hollowpoints and fmjs and try both kinds. If it feels good, works right, and looks good, go for it. Then report back to us.

Good luck.

I think the original importer went out of business and the new importer is just starting the promotions.
You start to see the first ads 3-6 months before the product is available. I wish companies wouldn't do that, but they all seem to.
I have fired the model 5000 when the first importer had them. All the bells and whistles, but the finish was very basic, lots of machine marks on the inside but exterior was OK. Not great, but not bad. Shooting was great. Extremely accurate and reliable. I remeber the gun being very tight.
All in all, an excellent value for the money. Now we have to see what the next batch will be like.

thanks everybody so far! Im not really a gambler so i think i will wait and get a springfield, colt, kimber---which one though is best for my first .45?

I just picked up my 1st 1911 style pistol. Kimber Pro Elite (discontinued but very similar to the Pro CDP). So far I love it. It's working great, looks great, and is super accurate. SO FAR. I'll keep working with it until I feel it's broken in and then see. I'd go with a Kimber based on this pistol.

Good luck.

If cost is an issue, get the Springfield.

If it's NOT that big a deal (i.e. you're willing to spend an extra $150-200 over and above the extra cash for the Springfield), then get a Kimber.

The bottom line is that you cannot get a better production 1911 than a Kimber. If you want better, then you're talking about a pro shop gun.
