AVOID "Hi Point" at any cost.
Best Choices Respectfuly:
1) Witness - Italy 2le action
2) Ruger - USA...
3) Llama - Spain 1911clone
All of the above - excelent, reliable, ...under $350 at any gun show or dealer/store.

Check out the Charles Daly 1911. Check my post on it. It cost me $335 NIB and has lots of extra already on it.

Looking at purchasing a 45 ACP in the price range of $350. who makes a decent reliable, quality 45 in this price range? Also saw a Hi-Point in 45 ACP would like opinion on this weapon.
How about the Taurus are they about the same quality as thr Ruger??

Ruger P97 should make an excellent choice in that price range. I have never heard one good thing about Hi-Point firearms, except that they are cheap.

Avoid the High Point. Total junk. Watch for a used Norinco. GREAT guns but basic. Nothing fancy.
For $350 you can also look at (if you can find one) a 1927 Argentine import surplus gun. GREAT guns for the dollar in that price range.
Auto Ordnance is in that price range and seems to have made some improvements over the past few years.
If you have to save up an extra few months to get the best possible. Hard to find a bad one. But NOT the Hi-Point.

Avoid the Hi-point in my opinion.

Look at Rugers... either the P90 or the P97. You can pick them up for less than $350 most places.

A Ruger P90 will serve you well. I have to agree with Massad ayoob on this one from personal experience: "they are as reliable as a ford truck and more accurate than even alot of higher priced models" :)

Like everyone else I'll stear you towards the Rugers. The new P97 is a fine handgun that offers impressive performance.

I have to agree with others and recommend the Ruger P-97. This is a great gun for the money. Reliable, accurate and built like a tank. Where else can you find a well made polymer and stainless handgun, with adjustable rear sights, for under $350 (I only paid $285 for mine)? No need to even consider the Hi-Point when you can get a Ruger.

What about a Para Ordnance? Very high quality and an excellent shooter, easily customized, too.

Never buy a gun made in a country who's water you wouldn't drink, meaning the Philipine made Charles Daly. It may look good but is a jam-o-matic. Soft metal slide. For the money you want to spend I would get the Ruger.

Greetings, Mount Vernon Gun & Coin in Illinois has a Norinco style 1911 for
around $335.00. Contact Mr. Karl Morgan
for more information; as these are drying
up quickly!!! :)

Ruger or Argentine 1911...I would lean toward the Ruger if you want to hold your price line.Much as I love 1911's it might take a little tinkering to get the Argentine 100% with all ammo (ball excepted).

The Ruger P-97 is (again) really hard to beat for the money. In fact it`s really hard to beat period! It`s one of the most accurate service grade autos I`ve ever shot. Marcus
