45 ACP & Win 244

Anyone have any pet loads or experience with this new powder (win 244)? I bought a couple lbs for my 45's for use with 230 gr hard balls. I'm new to reloading the 45 so I am starting from scratch. Initially I'm going to try and just duplicate the 830-850 fps military ball ammo, but then I might make a hard cast load too.

Hodgdon says around 5.6 gr max, but I wouldn't mind some info from someone actually using it in a 1911.

Question: Is W244 a new powder, or just a relabel like W231/HP38?

I think it is probably a reformulation of 231. The load data is a little different so it isn't likely just a new label.

with an fmj FP, Hodgdon says min 4.2 gr , max 5.3 with 231 and velocity of 832 from a 5 " barrel

same bullet, min is 5.2, max is 5.6 with 244 with a velocity of 885 from a 5" barrel

Brand new powder in 2017. The marketing says, "WinClean formulation reduces copper fouling and residue...".
Only ever used Bullseye and cast 230 grain RN's and FP's myself. Just work up the load using the Hodgdon jacketed bullet(The HDY FMJ) data and you'll be fine.
Load for accuracy and don't worry too much about the velocity. Unless you're using the exact same components the velocities will be slightly different anyway.

I have loaded some 230 gr LRN and got the following results out of a 1911 with a 5in barrel.

4.1 gr 717 fps, 4.3 gr 760 fps, 4.5 gr 776 fps, and 4.7 gr 824 fps.

I like the powder and have loaded several other calibers.
