I'm shooting a Colt mark IV Seriers 70 45 Govt.Model. 230 gr. RN bullet. Looking for pet loads out there that are not to hot, just punching holes. I have load books and load my own.

I would think that the most accurate load would depend on the individual gun. When loading a new handgun cartridge, I always start with a starting load of Unique as I've always had good luck with that powder, but YMMV.

It has been a long time since I reloaded any paper punching .45 ACP's, . . . but I far and above preferred Bulleseye for the paper puncher loads. I had to go look at my book to be sure, . . . but I used 3.5 grains of Bullseye with a standard primer.

It shot a whole lot more accurately than I did :D

It was much cleaner than Unique or anything else I tried. Later on in life I tried some Clays, . . . talking about dirty,..........UGH!!!!!!!!!!!

The other nice thing about Bulleseye, . . . re-forming the cases was much easier, . . . I rolled through them quickly, . . . could not do that with other powders.

May God bless,
Dwight

A lot of people seem to like Bullseye for .45acp target rounds. IIRC, loads from 3.8-4.0 grains seems to pop up regularly.

I have not loaded using Bullseye, but until I can put five rounds into 3" or so at 25 yards, I don't think I'm good enough to notice the difference in accuracy between powders (I'm working on it).

I have loaded .45acp with W231, Unique and Green Dot. Since I use a Dillon, and have yet to get Unique to meter consistently throught it (not an uncommon situation, from what I read) that means that (for me) Unique is only suited to a single stage with individually dipped and weighed loads.

My friend uses Bullseye on my Dillon to produce .38 Spl loads by the thousands. No worries at all.
