45 ACP Question

A friend of mine gave me 50 rounds of 45 ACP that was for a revolver. The rounds are in a steel holder 6 rounds each. Can not get the rounds out of the holder. Is there some kind of trick to it, how do they come out.

Empty cases? Take pliers, insert into empty case, pull directly out from the "clip" without applying any pressure upward or downward that will bend clip.

Loaded ammo? With fingers pull round directly out from the "clip" so as not to distort it up or down.

Question is, do you wish to save the clips, either so-called "half moon" 3 rounders or "full moon" six rounders?

If you plan on using them again, then a demooning tool might be in order but is not necessary.

^^^ True. I forgot to mention that the demooning tool is mainly necessary to prevent bending the moon clips, which can cause loading difficulties and/or cylinder drag when firing DA. If you intend to discard the clips, this may not be a factor. Be aware that undamaged clips have some resale value, but it's up to you to decide whether this will offset the cost of the tool.

With the six rounders I have never removed them without a demooning tool, the the fingers / pliers idea sounds good as I have done that with the 3 shot half moon clips. A picture of 6 rounds in a moon clip and a pistol that uses them. In this case a S&W 325PD.

If you have a junk 45 ACP barrel you can slide it over the round and use the rear hood as a lever to twist/pop them out.

Short a junk barrel you can use a good barrel as a pattern to make something similar out of a piece of tubing.
