45 ACP penetration

I would think the 165. Less momentum. Heavier bullets tend to penetrate more, all else being equal.

depends entirely upon the design of the bullet. None of them will be severely impeded by dry wall at all, regardless of bullet design. However, if your aim is to reduce penetration through a house, which would have wood, dry wall, and several other obstacles, your best bet would be the Federal EFMJ in 200gr. As it actually expands in dry wall, and wood, etc. Whereas hollowpoints tend to get clogged by wood, and some by dry wall, and turn into FMJ rounds.

There's no practical difference.

Pretty much any .45 ACP round (not including the prefragmented type) will shoot through a LOT of interior walls until a significant piece of wood or person is encountered.

Drywall isn't much of an impediment to a pistol bullet.

Even a shotgun loaded with small shot will shoot through three or four layers of drywall and a hollow core door. (Yes, I know this from experience.)

I would agree with the 165gr .45 bullets being less prone to penetrate through multiple layers of dry wall after encountering a target. The density of the bullet isn't that great when you are making a .45 auto bullet that light. But...the 165gr will easily penetrate two layers.

If you are looking for a bullet that will be defeated by a single or double layer of drywall you would most likely have to skip the notion of conventional bullet designs and go with the Frangible or other exotic types of ammo. Otherwise be prepared to have the bullet in the next room in case of a clean miss.

I hope everyone does not get annoyed by me saying this every time this subject comes up: You can poke your finger through drywall, any round with enough pentration to reach a humans vitals will penetrate drywall with little effect.
