.45 ACP +P Ammo

EXPLORER; Excellent question! For years I've been looking for +P fmj or flat point ammo in .45. I go hiking and camping alot and I carry fmj .45 in the woods. I've reseached it and haven't been able to locate any. Maybe somebody else can come up with some info.

Don't know about true +p .45, but I do know Fiocchi loads their FMJ hot and Winchester has a 185 grain FMJ flat point that shoots pretty quick. I get it at my range for $10 per 50.

Every standard 45 load out there is quite effective.Even target SWCs at modest velocities do better in the real world than most medium calibers loaded hot. So, why +P?

More is usually better, but not always...

Shot a woodchuck 5 times with a 225g LFP before it stopped requiring holes.

I think a 200g LSWC at IPSC Major would have been more humane.

For deep penetration on larger animals I would use 230gFMJ-RN+P (feed reliability) from "guess who?"

Olin created some 185 FMJ-SWC +P loads for the SEALS to get around the Hague Convention, you will see it at gun show occasionally and I think it was for sale through some catalog as well. Was doing about 1140fps IIRC. Triton also loaded some 185 FMJ's in the 45 Super for the SEALS also, for use in the Mk23. Had it for sale through their web page. Semper Fi....

Warning: Unless you own an H&K USP or Mk23, do not shoot .45 Super through your stock .45 ACP pistol. You risk a ruptured case due to improper lockup of the barrel and receiver, due to the increased inertia from the stronger loads. The H&K's are designed to handle the increased pressure from .45 Super. My Ruger P90 shoots them barely, and I am currently reloading using .45 Super brass from Starline. I haven't had a chance to shoot them yet, but I will let you know if you are interested.

My dream gun??? A .45 Super pistol...

js: Thanks for the tip. They have 230gr. at 940fps=451ft lbs. Have you used their ammo? Any comments on reliability/accuracy?
