.45 ACP +P Ammo In SIG P220 & P245?

Has anyone had any experience with shooting the higher pressure +P ammo in their SIG P220 or P245?

I just bought some Hornady JHP/XTP .45ACP +P in 200 grain. There is a warning label on the ammo about the +P only in firearms recommended by manufacturer for +P (you get the idea).

I don't recall any info from SIG about +P ammo in .45ACP. I would appreciate your comments.

I believe it's okay in LIMITED quanities. A few rounds to make sure your ammo of choice will feed, load up your mags and carry away. Shoot occasionally to rotate out old ammo. Otherwise, stick w/ milder ammo for practice...it's cheaper too ;)

Call Sig. As I recall, a stouter recoil spring (green tinted) is desirable in the P-220. I simply wouldn't risk an excellent "Sig P series" autoloader's longevity by unapproved use of +P ammunition.

I'm with my friend and colleague RWK on this issue. Why
one would want to possibily ruin an excellent crafted Sig, with
the use of +P ammunition is beyond me. :( :D

Every gun will wear out faster when you use +p or +p+ ammo. Higher pressures and higher slide velocities. It is simple physics.
Many handgun manufacturers don't say their guns aren't rated for +p ammo, or tell you not to use +p. They also sell to police departments, who mostly use +p ammo.
A few thousand rounds should not hurt your SIG. Check your manual or call SIG.

here's some safe +P 45 ammo

I called Tim Sundles at Buffalo Bore. His 45 ACP loads can be used in any firearm chambered for the round! Got it directly from him.
I like the 230gr FMJ Flat Point at 950fps myself. But traditional SD ammo users may want the 230gr JHP.
Its expensive, but accurate and worth it!

Hope this helps.

Brownells sells a spring kit for the P220, that includes a replacement standard spring, a light load spring and a heavy load spring for about $15.
