45 acp Mountain Guns/ pre or post sellout?

Absolutely the perfect N frame to my taste, but more are turning up suddenly. Please don't let these be post sellout production.

Does anyone know?

They began re-introducing them at just about the same time as the agreement. I got my new 625 Mtn. Gun just after the Sellout - I was afraid that if I waited, I would never be able to get one before S&W tanked. Also, the at that time, wholesalers were told the gun was for "Smith and Wesson Dealers Only", so I thought I was really pulling one over on ole' S&W since I'm not one. Boy was I wrong. I just got a flyer which has them listed for all dealers, probably since most people are avoiding Smiths like the plague.
I would get an old one if I were to do it again, since in my opinion, the new lockwork they use (read "cheap") doesn't give you as good a trigger, even after a trigger job by S&W. Also, I wouldn't trust the new ones since mine was the most horribly put together Smith I've ever seen, even requiring factory service to function again. Although, to be fair to them, I do applaud their service, which was just short of GREAT.

Thanks. I can understand the dilemma you felt. If they made a fixed sight 45 acp ( ala the model 58 ) I'd cave in - maybe.

The mountain gun could tempt me - if I held it in my hands I think my moral resolve might fail.

I bought a 45 Colt Mountain Gun about 3 years ago. Workmanship is good (except for the DA trigger pull which I am having Jack Weigand fix). This gun has the beefed up lockwork (same as 44 mag). Glad I got it before S&W sold out. Perhaps the best revolver I have ever owned. Super accurate. I wouldn't take anything for it. Cor-Bon claims I can use their new 265 gr. 45 Colt hunting load for it. Recoil will be high, but it's so light, it is really a pleasure to carry all day.

Rusty, you hit the nail right on the head. I am currently trying to figure out how I can turn my 625 adj. sighted gun into a fixed-sighted one, sort of a new, improved 1917. If I figure it out, I'll post the info here.

Somebody makes a fixed sight rear to replace the adjustable factory one, but it has got a truly humongous size back blade. Think of one of those BoMar sized 1911 replacement fixed sights that goes back behind the slide's rear. Not to say one couldn't mill down the usual S&W ramp and blade front sight to a good bit lower blade and then take down the fixed rear's billboard size to suit.
