.45-70 Revolver Use???

Does anyone own a revolver (e.g. the Magnum Research BFR) in .45-70 Government caliber? If so, I have a couple of questions for you:

1. Is this a "fun gun" only, or is it practicable as a hunting handgun?

2. What's the recoil and controllability like?

3. Have you tried it with "heavy" loads (e.g. Garrett, Buffalo Bore, Cor-Bon, etc.) or only with the "standard" loads?

4. What's the accuracy like?

5. What about mounting a scope? Mount? Scope? How does the scope stand up to the recoil of this heavyweight cartridge?

God bless.

.45-70 Revolver Use

To me a .45-70 Revolver would be a 5 shot revolver I would find a controllable load for, sight it in and the leave it alone.
Back in the late 80's the .45-70 Revolver was called "THE ALASKAN" and advertised for a last resort defense for BEARS.

I got a Simmons 44mag 4x scope for the casull, and after about 300 rounds, the crosshairs are no longer a cross, they are an "X"

It was that punishing to the reticle.

Maxine was a gun I once knew" Country song in there somewhere...I dont own one but have shot one on a couple of occasions.

For me it would be a perfect fun/hunting gun...both.

With stock loads recoil is like a Casull...with the 425gr reloads I shot the first time....it was like a CASULL with evil reloads. Still not uncontrollable....but on the verge..

Accuracy is good enough that with a 10" barrel, stock sights and 425 gr reloads....I cut a playing card in half at 50'...second shot.
Very Accurate.....given its a freaking cannon! :D

Shoot well
