Hello I was wondering if anyone had any DE 44mag recipes using the Nosler 240gr JSP with any of the following powders:
Winchester Ball296
IMR 800X
Unique

I have seen older post with powders listed that seem either very difficult to get or no longer available. I currently use a single stage lee press and made up a load of 50 rounds tonight to try out this weekend. I went with the following:

Nosler 240gr JSP using IMR 800X 1.3cc Lee scoop approx. 12.5gr

Thanks for any input.

I can tell you right now that you have to be carefull with W296 (same as H110). The floor drops out if loads get a little light and bad things can happen. My buddy has a Desert Eagle 44 Mag and he stopped using it. I think he has some Unique loads now but I will have to check with him and see what they are.

Its a Whole new beast loading for the Eagle. Warnings against Using Plated rounds and lead is a big no no.

As far as 800x Goes I have no clue. Ill let the more familiar with the Eagle and that Powder Opine.

I AM YELLING FO A REASON. WHAT YOU LOADED IS DANGEROUS BECAUSER IT IS WAY TO LIGHT A LOAD USING 296.

Do not attempt to shoot them you have to pull them. 296 is very sensitive to position and air pockets and you easily could hamage your DE with those loads.

Double bad combo right!

For a 240 gr JHP, I load 23 grains of H-110, using Winchester brass with a Winchester LP magnum primer. H-110 is similar to WW-296. Both are full throttle powders that you warned not to use for reduced loads. This load is safe in my Dan Wesson and Colt 44 Mag pistols but check your favorite load manual before using. 12 grains of WW-296 is too light a charge for a 44 Mag.

I don't think 800X would be a good 44 Mag powder for full house loads.

I have no experience with Unique powder.

The 50 rounds loaded were only with the 800X IMR Powder.

I was trying to figure what all the yelling about 296 was about.

Your DE was made with expectations to shoot factory ammo. as with any other 44 mag, some loads might work better than others.

Shadows load of 23-24gr 296/110 is a staple and a standard. I've never heard of an application where it did not perform well. It's a full magnum load.

So is about 10gr of Unique. It's a midrange magnum load so I can't guess as to whether you'll have action cycling issues.

My younger brother has a DE in .44. It does not like light loads and it does not like lead. It cycles well and shoots accurately with H110/W296 loaded mid-way to just under max. Nosler shows a range of 22.8 to 23.8gr with their 240gr JSP using WLPs. I generally use 23.5gr under the Nosler 240 for my revolvers, my carbines and my brother's DE, but have run 23gr under them with very good success also.

I've had a Desert Eagle .44 Magnum since 1990.
(here comes the shouting)

DO NOT USE LEAD BULLETS!!!
Do not use plated bullets (I don't care what kind of a good deal you got)

Do not use light loads, the pistol simply will not function. Midrange loads almost never function the gun, either.

I don't know 800X powder at all, sorry.
296/H110 work, do not go below listed starting loads. DE may not run well at starting load levels. Upper end loads generally work.

While I haven't used it in my DE, my guess would be 10gr Unique will absolutely give you cycling issues in the DE. It is a "midrange magnum" load only in REVOLVERS, and the starting load in my Speer manual for a 240gr jacketed .44 Mag slug is 11.6gr Unique, and that barely hits 1200.

The DE wants hot loads (full house), 13-1400fps or it doesn't run well.

I have had good luck with the Sierra 180gr JHC and AA#9 (full load, 21.+gr).

I had good results with 2400 in the .357 DE, but stopped using it after reading warnings about unburned powder possibly clogging the gas system, back in the late 80s. Never tried it in my .44.

The Desert Eagle is a very unique gun. It is a high performance engine built to run on a very narrow range of "fuel". Play by its rules and it plays well. Don't and it won't, and can even be rendered inoperable (clogged gas system).

Clog the gas system good enough, and you will be buying a new barrel assembly. The factory will not fix it!!

I load the DE with Win 296 23.5 240gr.Winchester bullets .
The gun has shot a ton of lead with zero problem . (you got to know how)

Still waiting for the magic method that lets you shoot "a ton of lead with zero problem" through a Desert Eagle.

The maker says DON'T DO IT!

I'm really curious....

I could but you sir are not ready for the MAGIC

I could but you sir are not ready for the MAGIC

And you, sir, judge this, how??

I've been shooting Desert Eagles since 1984. Perhaps I'm not ready, but what about all the other folks out there??

If you don't want to share, fine, say so. Nobody likes a tease.
