442 cylinder rust?

My 442 is only about a year old and looks like new...but when I look at the cylinder under a desk lamp, at certain angles I can see light brown spots. It's wierd cause I can't see them in normal light. Is it possible ther is a little rust forming under the blue that you can't see under normal conditions? It also seems to be right where the cylinder contacts the soft leather pouch of my renegade holster...could the leather be causing a reaction to the steel?

Maybe not the leather, but some moisture in the leather. I spilled something on my 442 in a pocket holster and it damaged the finish. The cylinder is being refinished in NP3.

I'm gonna hard chrome it at ford's soon....they can do the aluminum frame by coating it with electroless nickel first....as long as I go with a matte finish (since brushed or bright is harder to do with aluminum) they told me it should come out fine and they haven't had any problems up to now...they did my P7 and it came out beautiful so I trust their judgement....

Yes, to both of your questions.

I'd go over the steel with some WD-40, rag and elbow-grease. If that doesn't take it all off, use some Flitz polish. Follow up with a good, NON-abrasive car wax of some sort, or Flitz's own gun-wax product.

No disrespect intended, just a question.

Why would you rather have a carbon cylinder 442, when you could have a 642 with a stainless cylinder?

None taken....so I'll tell you.

I already have 442 that I picked up like new for 200 bucks...and with an 80 dollar chrome job I'm still in to it for only 300 bucks (including the 20 dollar transfer fee) A new 642 goes for over 400 (about 440 with tax) around here so I'm saving quite a bit...also, I like the look of an all matte chrome gun over the two tone shiny/satin look of the 642....especially one with no writing on it since alll the engravings will be removed...plus, I'll be the only kid on my block with a chrome 442....

will do...he is also putting in an orange ramp sight and tuning the action..the bill is still under 120 total....less than what some charge for just the action job.....

Don't shoot...

Wow! Talk about your good deals! Do you know this guy or something to get that good price?
Do have any pictures of his work and can you post them, please?

Horace ford (formerly of checkmate i think) did my P7 last year and is more know for his refinishing...and 80 dollars is a police price, normal is around 100...as far as the action and ramp, he just told me he would cut a few coils off the springs and polish a few parts (such honesty is quite rare) so it sounded to me like he doesn't charge much to begin with...even if he is quoting me a police price on the polish and ramp, i can't see the regular price being much more tha 10 or 20 bucks higher for both...you can see his hard chrome work at....

thanks Kentucky....after further deliberation I'm leaning towards a black ramp since it is a chrome gun...it should stand out fine in the day and at night....well, doubt I'll see any sight at night other than tritium....what do you think?

In my opinion, I'd still get the orange. The only indoor range around here is not well lit. Black would be almost as hard to see as gray. For me, the orange would work better inside or out.
