I love my Ruger SBH. poor tree though... its a little shorter now :D Everyone should have a .44 and the SBH is excellent, very accurate and comfortable to shoot. I may go for the hogue grips eventualy since my hands sweat so much. I had always been told how bad the .44 recoil was... WRONG. Muzzle flip out the wazoo but not bad recoil wise, nothing to develop a flinch over. Now I have the bug, gotta shoot a .500 now!!

The SBH being a single action was ment to roll back in your hand.Makes it easier for follow up shots.I found the wood grips more comfortable than the hogues.

Thanks bishop, that was my only concern about changing grips. I may stick with the wood. They are definetly more aesthecialy pleasing that rubber on an sa. I noticed that Hogue has some very fancy wooden grips, but I have never held them or know anyone who has.

good shooting!

Not sure about the hogues on a S/A but ive got them on my GP and SIG and they feel great.

Nice rig!!! is it for hunting or just target?
I need to find some good ammo for hunting. I am having a hell of a time getting the face of the cylinder clean, what do you use?

I think Corbon makes a 180 gr bullet.I have a polishing rag I use to clean it.I only use it for target. For such a cheap price the lil BSA scope holds up good.Even with those 180 gr.

I used the Hogues for a while but went back to the original grips. I found it much easier to control. Gotta love the SBH!

.44 hunting bullet

If you handload, Lee has a 240gr gas check mold I use in .44-40 and a friend uses in .44mag, we both get 1400fps to 1550 fps using IMR4227 and H-110 and get very good accuracy with bullets sized to bore or .001 larger.
My friend just whacked a feral hog with it and had immediate knockdown at 40+yd.

One time I was test firing some hardcast handloads out of my Freedom Arms .454 Casull, and had my target stapled to a support timber of an old washed out bridge. These timbers were 14" or 16" thick solid wood, and my bullets were going through. ;)

'Course, I was shooting from a crouching position with my elbow rested on my knee, and on one shot my left hand slipped from sweat. The barrel knocked my hat off. :D

I put a set of rosewood Hogues on my SBH. Get the smooth grips. They roll back in the hand best (like that design of revolver was designed to do). The checkered ones will tear your hand up, and rubber grips are too "grabby" and you'll be sore after firing them, they are best for DA wheelguns that aren't supposed to roll back with the recoil. The Hogues are also bigger thent eh Ruger stock grips, and fill out my hands much better. If you have small hands, you might want to stick to the factory grips.

Quick story about tree shooting

Me and 2 buddies were out plinking. I had a M1 Garand which they werent familiar with. One buddy said "Hey, bet you cant take out that tree". It was about 10 inches in diameter. I said "I can do it with 1 clip". They disagreed, so I loaded up. After the 8th shot, the 10" tree AND the tree behind it both fell over, cut off at the same height.

Needless to say both buddies held the M1 Garand in high regard after that.

(Yes, there was some luck involved) :)
