.44 Special Cowboy Loads in My 629?

Wonder if this is a good load that will let my wife shoot with me without scaring her off. The shell is about 1/4 inch shorter than the magnum which i imagine produces a lot less recoil. However, it looks strange as can be inside the chamber as it sits back what looks like a 1/2 inch! Is that normal?

That's normal. In addition to it being a 44 special, as compared to a magnum, the cowboy rounds are loaded very light. I would guess the recoil from that load would be not much more than a 38 special.

works like a charm. unless your going to reload, use the Cowboy 44 spl. Use the lighest bullet you can find. save your brass. if she likes it, or if you find out its just a plain good shooting load, you have the expensive part of the reloading components.

Montana,
If it still has too much recoil for your wife, you can also use the
.44 Russian. It's the same diameter, but even shorter and milder load. If you reload you can buy 44 Russian brass from Starline.
