44 Factory Load

On the cheaper side the yellow box remington umc stuff "feels/sounds" awful warm for factory stuff.

Next up would be something like cor-bons 300+ grain penetrator rounds.(a little pricey to just use calming the WOW factor)

If you can find them locally, or don't mind ordering through the mail, garrett hammerheads will make d*** sure you're awake.(very expensive just to go boom with though.)

I like the Hornady 300gr XTP factory loads. They are heavy and just slightly warm. THe Buffalo Bore and Garrett stuff is just too hot for me. The Federal Cast core is not a bad load either.

A few years ago, I checked out several .44s with the Winchester white box 20 grain jacketed soft point. Velocities were in line with expectations from factory rounds and they were as accurate as you could want from scoped revolvers. Have also had good luck with PMC and would be inclined to look favorably on anything loaded with a 240 grain XTP or same weight Speer Gold dot as I have used both bullets as components. 300 grain loads are ok if you have enough sight range to sight them in.

Ben, if you are talking about those 180grain UMC 44 Mag loads. They do feel rather stout, they make my 4inch 29-3 kick pretty harshly.

Thanks for the info. guys. I shot some PMC 240 gr. jhp. Not bad at all not saying this gun isn't stout but I've never been recoil senstive.....so it was fun blasting.....took me about ten rounds to get "my" grip.......will have to do something(round it)about the square trigger guard.............but all in all a pretty good gun......

Thanks Ben, I just ordered a Pachmayr Decellerator....I'll wait to see how it works before I start grinding on the trigger guard

There's a certain individual on this board who generally shoots warm-to-notquiteinsane loads. He swears by decelerators. Hope they work for you.

Do they fill the gap behind the trigger gaurd?
If so it shouldn't bite that knuckle anymore. It also makes your grip more natural.

Won't get the grips for a couple of days, so I'll find out how they fill up grip space. if not I'll find ones that do....thanks

I personally don't care for factory loads for the 44 mag, I notice they can be very erratic, using a chrono you can the deviance in the loads, but if you don't reload I found out of all the factory loads I used and tested the Federal JHP 240 gr are fairly accurate and moderate, winchester 240 jacketed softpoints shot good and moderate, but did not like the design of the bullet, Golddots & Hornady 240 gr JHP's shot the best and I liked there big JHP's and they are on the hot side as well. I reload using the hornady XTP or Sierra Golddot and the Win Partiongold .430 bullets using WW296 at 24 gr Max load using CCI mag Primers, win brass, heavy crimp, 1520 fps, hand trickle every load and seat and crimp in two stages, the results are one inch groups at 50 yards, I find handloading is a step above factory loads if done right, Aim small hit small. RAMbo.
