44 Black powder to 45LC conversion

It's all in the way they used to measure the bore. I have a 44 BP 1858 Remington made by Pietta and have been shooting with a .45 Colt R&D cylinder for years and it one of the most accurate pistols I own.

.44 black powder uses .451 to .454 lead round balls. That ROA calls for .457. All of the balls get a little lead shaved off during seating in the chambers, but only a few thousandths of an inch. 45lc uses .452 bullets. Barrel is fine for both as long as they are lead bullets.

By modern measurements the .44's of old and the repros therof are .45's, that includes the Rugers.

Well, that is very interesting. I see there are 45 acp conversions also. Have wanted a blackpowder and 45 ACP revolver for some time. Could get two birds with one stone.
