.410 shotshells

I saw a really sweet .410 double today. A Stoeger Arms, full size gun, but in .410. Nice wood and felt pretty good. My problem: where can I get .410 shells at a "decent" price. The dealer had them for about $10.00 a box. He told me I could get them at Wallyworld for 7 to 8 a box. I used to reload a great deal for 12 ga., when I was shooting traps. If I buy the double, should I just figure on buying a Mec 650 Jr. and reload, or is there an unfamiliar source somewhere?

I dunno. .410 seems a bit pricey for what ya get - compared to the others.

In any event, a quick google search turned up Cheaper Than Dirt ... hit their search wizard & off to shotguns/gauge ... plenty .410 listed & a lot less tha "$7-8 a box."

Yep 410 and 28 ga are pricey. The best source for shells is at the local skeet range. If you buy by the case you may get the price down to below $7.00 a box.

A reloader is a good idea.

I can't really see a good reason for owning a .410 unless it is for teaching your kids but I start them on the 12ga, make men out of them.:D

Try Bass Pro Shops,The one in Orlando,Fl.that I go to has the best selection of shotgun shells, most I'v seen in years.Good price too.

I've taken more game [rabbits, pheasants, quail] with a 410 than all my other shotguns combined.

For ducks and geese, 12 guage, for all others 410 is about as good as it gets.

The two 410's that i've owned that stand out to me were = 870 wingmaster & Stevens 311a double barrel. The stevens was the first gun my father bought me and i was deadly with that weapon. I see them advertised once in a while and sooner or later i'll have another one. Winchester model 42 is also a good choice for 410 guage gun.

I see that Winchester is making a lever action model 94 in 410 guage. [21/2 inch shells only]. That would be a great rabbit hunting gun!!

The price of shells is not that bad. Gun shows always seem to have good prices on shotgun shells.

12-34hom.

Unless you're a dedicated skeet shooter, the price of 410 ammo shouldn't be that much of a hardship. And, bulk buying at ranges and gun shops can drop the price quite a bit.

The ammo makers, tho, have a set of brass ones charging as much as they do for a load with that little lead and powder. As a reloader, I've a good idea of the cost per a shot of the components, and half as much lead and powder cuts the cost a major amount. Try the load cost calculator over on the home page of trapshooters.com and see what the difference is. The figures won't match what the ammo makers pay in overhead but the proportions are the same.

Cheaper Than Dirt's on-line catalog has somepretty good prices (<$6/box 25) on Estate .410, but out of order.

May want to check back.
