.410 in .45-70 Barrels

Is it true that .45-70 rifles can fire .410 shotgun shells? I read this on the Equipped to Survive website at http://www.equipped.org/devices30.htm
Also, has anyone ever tried Buffalo Bore Ammo 45-70 Magnums?
Thanks,
Sherman

Back in the 1930s, I had a trapdoor Springfield and a Remington Hepburn in 45-70 and shot a lot of tin cans with 410 shells. We didn't have any 45-70 ammo, it was fun to shoot, and with no choke in the barrel, it wasn't much of a threat to anything outside of 20 yards. But then, out in the country, we didn't have a lot to entertain us so it probably wouldn't seem too exciting now. :D

Could you do that with a Marlin? I wonder if it would feed.... More importantly, would it hurt the gun?
