410 H & R Handy Gun

I have a H & R Handy Gun 410 size shell with 12 mm choke.
Are there very many of these guns out there and about what is the age?
Serial # is 18162 and it has a smooth bore. Any idea on the value?

I've had the gun for about 60+ years. I remember in the early "60's" I reg. the gun with the Federal Govt. and don't remember if there was a fee.

Very neat gun. I would think there might be some collector value. It's an NFA item but I think to transfer there's only a $5 fee and the class III paperwork.
 
Back in 1967 one of my college friends had one of these. It was a lot of fun to plink around with exept .410 shells were a lot more expensive than .22.

The "Handy Gun" was nothing more than H&R's modified single 410 shotgun. Now of course it has collector value, but you can legally own a Contender 45/410 with choke which actually shoots a pretty good pattern. The rifling is cut shallow and the straight rifled choke stops any shot spin.
 
Not too many of them out there anymore. They were popular amongst farmers as a tractor gun so many of them that are still around are not in very good shape. Yours looks to be in very good shape. I believe these date back to the 1920's.
 
Nice gun. My brother has one like yours that he bought at a gun ahow about 1965. He registered it during the amnesty in November 1968 which I'm sure was when you registered yours too. Locate the registration papers and be sure you have them. If you ever decide to sell it or trade it the paperwork will be required. And no, sorry I don't know what they sell for these days, but they are quite collectible. There is a 20 ga listed on Guns America, asking price $1550.
