.40S&W conversion for HKUSP9s...

Hi!

I'd appreciate your thoughts on the .40 SW conversion package available for the USP9 standard, before I shell out $350 for it. I kind of like the idea of having a "2-in-1" handgun package. I practically get a new gun for half the price of another unit, and a more potent caliber to boot.
Any inputs would be much appreciated.

$350? For another $100 and a little luck, you could pick up a slightly used USP40 to go with your USP9...

I'm sure I'm overcautious, but I don't like any conversion kits that go UP in caliber. Down is fine, UP worries me.

Again, probably silly, since I'm sure the frame and slide start off identical, and only the barrel and recoil system is different...

Onslaught, the USP was designed as a .40 caliber pistol. After it was released, HK scaled it down to 9mm using the same frame, which means the .40 S&W slide assembly will not cause any abnormal stress on the frame or other components.

Thanks to you both! :)

With the lukewarm response to this thread, i guess that this USP9mm/40SW conversion idea really did not catch on to most (if not all) TFL'rs, which i assume to mean that it may not be a good idea at this time :( . And, you're right, it really will bite bigtime into my gunshooting budget.

If it had been a 9mm/45ACP conversion, then maybe the enthusiasm would have been different...

Appreciate your inputs,
