Just bought A 7inch blued herter's powermag with 100 rounds for 200 i would like some informmation if anybody has any thanks.

I recall seeing them in the Herter's catalogs almost 50-years ago; but, beyond that, I'm sorry, I can't help you. There has to be a few of them still in service, perhaps one of my fellow gray beards will respond.

I believe that most of the powermags were made in Germany by J. P. Sauer & Sohn. Decent quality revolvers.

The .401 cartridge was a direct competitor to the .41 Magnum, and delivered similar ballistics.

Here's a pretty good article on both the gun and the cartridge, along with some loading information (use at your own risk).

Herters Power mag

I bought one about two years ago chambered in 357 mag. They are the same gun otherwise. What has been posted is true they were built in West Germany and imported until the import gun ban legislation of 1968.The cylinder is as large in diameter as the cylinder of my 44 Super Blackhawk. The few times I have shot it have shown it to be very accurate.I cannot get used to the angle of the grip though.I am of the opinion that it may see some resurgance since the 40 and 10mm are becomming so popular and they use the same diameter bullet.I would also like to add that the 401 came out 2 or 3 years before the 41 mag.You can find alot of reloading equipment on GB if you are inclined to do some reloading.Oh,and I think you got a great deal if its in good shape.

My brother just got one in 401 power mag, and he made some dies for it, without listening to me.
I was trying to tell him about the brass springs back when it comes out of the dies.
I think he made the sizer die too big.

In the end he borrowed my 40sw/10mm dies.
Maybe he can bore out his home made dies for his 50 Rem rolling block pistol.

We screwed around with some cartridge conversions, but then he happened on some brass that was the real thing.

I know how much pressure guns can take from looking at them, and that revolver is as stout as most 44 mags.
