.400 CorBon

I am contemplating getting a .400 CorBon barrel for my Kimber Stainless Gold Match .45 ACP. I have a couple of questions.

(1) Are the conversion barrels like Ed Brown's truely "drop-in" barrels, or must some gunsmith fitting be done?

(2) If the barrel must be fitted to the gun, will that mess up the fit of the original .45 ACP barrel?

Any info here will be appreciated. Thanks. Feel free to respond on or off list.

Most comanies offer both drop-in and gunsmith fit versions. I'be put in a couple of Brown's drop ins with no trouble.

On the barrels that require fitting the original barrel is not changed and all work is done on the new one

I use a threaded, compensated Accu-Match .400 Cor-Bon barrel in my 70 Series Gold Cup. I had to reduce the width of the barrel hood by .050", due to the difference in width of the Gold Cup barrel hood and a standard 1911 barrel hood. Other than that, the barrel dropped right in and works fine.

I also use Accu-Match barrels in my G21; .400 Cor-Bon compensated, the other .400 Cor-Bon standard.
