I'm thinking of converting my 1911 govt to 400 corbon to pull double duty as a defensive carry and a close range deer gun but I'm concerned the recoil will make quick multiple shots in a gunfight difficult. Any comments on the recoil would be appreciated.

Frank - Do a "Search" on 400 Corbon - you will find a plethora of information.

I shoot .400 Cor-Bon out of a G21. It's not uncomfortable to me, whether I'm shooting comp'd or not. Of course, the muzzle flip and recoil are reduced by the comp.

Personally, I cannot percieve and appreciable difference in recoil from non-ported 10mm, .400cb, and 45acp+p. I have heard people say that ANY pistol can be learned to shoot rapidly if you practice. However, personally I think if you really want very rapid double-taps, go with a 9mm or comped gun. As between 45 and 400cb, I say go for the corbon - won't be much different from a +P (yes, it's more than a non-+P round, though).
