.40 Winchster 155gr. Silvertips: Good Defense Round for Glock 23, 27 & 35?

FREE SPEECH

I am new to the .40 scene and looking for some feedback about .40 Silvertips that will be used in a Glock 23, 27 and 35. Does anyone know how well they pentrate and retain their weight after pentrating winter type clothing? After using the 10mm Silvertips, which I have been very happy with, I am hoping that the .40 version is just as good. Is it considered a "hot load" or just an average velocity load?
Who has the price on the this round via mail order?

I carry the silver tips in my 23 and 23 and they feed good. I am not sure about penetration but they come out of the 27 at 1200 fps with 500 foot pounds of energy. They feel about as hot as the Gold Dots or Golden Sabers which I believe will have more penetration than the Silver Tips because of their harder jackets. They are all considered a hot load.

I use 155 gr Silvertips only and love them but they are sometimes hard to find but have about 2000 or so I should be alright for a while they are accurate and move right out.

Hope that this helps they are good.

I use the silvertips exclusively in my 23 for defense. Don't know how fast they are, or what clothes they prefer.
I Do know I have never had failure to feed or function. 100% reliable in mine.

Excellent PERSONAL defense bullet; not the best for L.E.

Doesn't penetrate hard barriers as well as some other bullets.

I use it in my 40 and 10mm mid-range loads.

i don't know much about the .40 (i'm more of a 9mm and .357sig guy myself) but i hear the 155 grain is the best round. i also personally like the federal Hydra-shock. any good HP in that grain should do fine though.

I carry Glock 23 as backup on S.D.here in KY and I previously used Silvertips for 3-4 years then switched to 135 Corbon. For various reasons, I'm not happy with 135 load and will either switch back to STs or 155 Corbon, depending on what's available here.
The 155 just shoots to point of aim better for me.

I prefer the 155 grain Gold Dot.

I have carried the Win Silvertips in my .40 cal pistols for the last couple of years. This round has always functioned 100%, seems as accurate as any of the other 155s and has been very effective on werewolves...just joking...

I have tried 165 gr and 180 gr Golden Sabers, 135 gr Corbon JHPs, and 155 gr STs. My 229 is currently loaded with STs and it will stay that way. They are cheaper than the others, more accurate in my weapon, rated very highly for personal defense (I'm not LEO and don't plan on shooting through any cars in the foreseeable future) and, most importantly, you can find training ammo in the exact same weight. You can't do that with the 135 gr loads, my second favorite.

Pen/exp after heavy clothing is usually around 12-14/.60-.70. Tactical barrier pen (wood, glass, steel) is as good as any other 155/165 40 load from what I've seen.

A very good choice. Any 155/165 40 is. The 155 Rem, Silvertip, Gold Dot, XTP all do around 1200 fps from my 226, and 1175 from my 229. The 165s around 1075/1110. The Fed 155 HS pokes along at 1080/1110.

I got zero expansion in denim covered gelatin when fired from a G27.

The best load I've tested so far with a G27 is the 165gr Remington Golden Saber. Performance was almost identical (12-14 inches) in both bare and denim covered gelatin.
