40 SW Powder

I load 40sw for a Glock 23. I use Extreme 165 plated bullets. I am now using 7gr of Power Pistol. What suggestions for powder does anyone have?

Recommend Winchester Super Field WSF for 165 grain bullets. I tested Unique, Power Pistol, AA#5, and WSF in my G23 with 165 gr. Jacketed Flat Points. WSF was the best for accuracy and velocity. I've read that WSF has a softer recoil impulse and for some reason it does seem to kick less and not as snappy as some others. Powders I would pick are WSF then Unique.

WSF is one of the best powders for general use .40S&W. It has a smoother pressure curve than some others, and is pretty clean too.

A bit repetitive . . .

TiteGroup will work well for those plated 165's. It'll give you some good range/practice ammo.

Your Power Pistol is good too, but it's best for the hot rounds. When it's loaded to full potential, a plated bullet may not cut it - might have to move to jacketed.

Well here's another one VV3N37, works pretty well for me in the 180's. Haven't worked up a 165 load just yet. What I like about VV powder is just how clean it runs. It's a little more, but if you buy it in bulk... not that big of a deal to me.

W231 and AA#5 have worked well for me in my experiments using Xtreme plated bullets.

That's easy to believe. Two excellent choices.

I don't load for 40 S&W; but I do load for 10mm. Being a stouter round, I use 180's instead of 165's (if I loaded for 40, the majority would likely be 165's).

In the 10mm world, I use a lot of AA#5 under X-treme 180's for my "85%" range practice rounds. When I want to go hotter (not often), I move up to Power Pistol or AA#7 under 180 jacketed slugs. A great use for AA#7 IMO.

I have loaded jacketed 165's for my 10mm guns (two). And when I do, I go hot. And it seems that Power Pistol really shines in the application.

My roundabout point is that 165's in 40 S&W probably behave a similarly to 180's in 10mm - in terms of purpose/powder selection.
