Okay, before finding this amazing Web Site, I knew about 9mm +P. I was surprised by the 9mm +P+ and 45 +P. Now I feel left out. What I'm wondering is, is there any .40 S&W +P(Aside from 10mm :p to all you smarty pants who were going mention it) Am I just going to have to suck it up and stick with my Remington Golden Sabers?

The way I hear it, there are no SAAMI specs for .40S&W +p, so anyone (Cor-bon) who advertises such is just advertising.

Oooo...I forgot about those

Yes, I had read stuff about the 400 Cor-bon on this sight, but up to this point was ignorant about 40 Super. Now I'll have to start researching those. Truth be told, I'm one of those people who thinks, "Man, if 2 or 3 center of mass shots from a .40 don't drop someone, I don't want to wait around to see what it IS going to take."

As I understand it, the pressures created by the typical 40 S&W load are already up there with the +p loads of other calibers.....
I dont think I want anymore........Shoot well

+P+ are not actual SAAMI standards. It simply means that the round is WAY over standard pressure, sometimes as much as 20%.

Oh, in .40 Auto, +P simply means "Plus Profit."

Agreed, there is no SAMMI specs for a .40 +p, however, Georgia Arms advertises a .40 155gr GDHP load at 1300fps. Spec or no spec, I'd consider that +p even if it's not really over pressure cause it beats the hell out of anything offered by anyone else.

Guys:

If you want +P+ loads that are not over pressure, just get Hodgdon Longshot Powder.

I use Factory Hydrashok ammo as carry simply because of the liability of using handloads. However, for home defense, I use 180 Gold Dots with Longshot. In a 4" barrel, I am getting

180 gr 1099 fps ES 24 and consistently under 1" @ 25 yards.

With 135gr 1468 fps ES 39 best groups 2" @ 25.
With 155gr 1307 fps ES 21 best groups of 2" @ 25.
With 165gr 1195 fps ES 25 consistent 2" @ 25.

Hodgdon website lists much higher velocities than these, but the 180 gr loads I have are mid-range 10MM loads. So if there were standards for a +P loading, it can be done quite easily by overloading this powder.

Regards, Shoney
