I just picked up a 40 round mag and have yet to shoot with it, but .....is it better than the 30's? Just thinking that more ammo in a mag is better but haven't heard or seen much about this around.

Thanks

Heck with the 40-rounders, I want to know about the mag I saw on the cover of a Kalashnikov hitory book I saw at a gunshow.

That sucker was a regular-style mag, not a drum, that went all the way from the mag well and seemed to attach to the bottom of the front sight post. What's that, about 150 rounds?!

Can't imagine how much that thing weighs!

As far as mags go, I think the 30 is the best choice for shooting the AK. The gun was designed to use that Mag. and it balances best with it. The downside to the 40 is the extra weight. Athough if youre only at the range whats a few more ounces eh! But if your fielding that gun, that extra few ounces will really tire you out.

oh and the magazine that Yankee saw was actually a 100 round RPK magazine. It goes from the mag well to the end of the barrel just short of the muzzlebrake. It was designed before the russians realized that a drum magazine was better for shooting in the prone position. Oh and for anyone who doesnt know, the RPK was a light machinegun version of the AK fitted with a heavier barrel and a tougher reciever.

ENJOY YOUR AK`s EVERYONE!!!!;)
