.40 in a compact 1911?

What is the collective wisdom on chambering a small 1911 variant in .40? I know that Kimber is diong it with the Ultra Carry and the Compact. It would seem to give you an extra round and the smaller caliber would be more efficient in a short barrel than a .45. Any thoughts?

My thought is (after firing two Ultra Elites) if you want a little 1911 get it in 38 Super.

My 'little' 1911 is a 5" Caspian.......

With that short a slide, and that high pressure cartridge, you are going to have quite a bit of flip and recoil. Not enough slide mass to make the system work reliably either. Colt made some Defenders in 40, and the report I got from a owner with a 45 Defender was that the 40 was much nastier than the 45 and ammo sensitive, because of the blunt bullets and short slide stroke.
