.40 *&* Cartridge - How Much Pressure?

I've heard the .40 referred to as a "high pressure" cartridge. Does anyone know what the actual values are compared to a 9mm or a .45? How does this "high-pressure" affect the service life of a semi-auto chambered for this round? Is it generally assumed that a .40 pistol will not last as long as the same model in 9mm or .45? Any opinions? Thanks!

An unarmed man is a subject.

The maximum pressure for the .40 S&W is 35000 psi.

By comparison the 9mm Luger is 36,500 and the .45 ACP is 21,000 psi.

How to classify it depends on what you call "high". I don't view it as a particularly high pressure round.

I've never felt that pressure alone was anything to worry about in terms of service life because the gun has to be designed to work at whatever the pressure happens to be. There are lots of variables besides pressure that determine service life, but very few people need to worry about that at all. Unless one shoots many thousands of rounds a year most good quality pistols or revolvers will never have a problem related to wear.
