.40 caliber revolvers

There is one, a Smith & Wesson Performance Center gun shown on their web page. It is their model 646. Uses special full moon clips that are unique to this gun. The clips are the only way to get a good extraction. I've got one and I like it.

Since S&W has chambered the L-Frame in .40 S&W, albeit in a Performance Center custom jobbie with Titanium cylinder, and since custom gunsmiths have been re-chambering "L's" to the wildcat .41 Special for a while, I recently asked a pistolsmith of national reputation if he thought it would be feasible to re-chamber a 686 to .40 S&W...he looked at me kinda funny, but...after thinking about it a minute, he allowed as how it just might work...and, NO, I'm NOT tellin' who it was...my idea, I get to go first!!!....mikey357

Taurus had a picture of a 5 shot snubby on their web site last year. I can't find it now. I too would rather see it in 10mm. Anyone else know anything about it?

The 646 is extremely accurate. I'll put it this way, it is much more accurate than me. Wish to get into more details, but I'm on someone else's computer and they are about to kick me off.

I also have a 646 that I purchased right before all the ruckus started:
Great trigger, very accurate, looks good.
Only problem I have had is getting replacement moon clips, S&W took my money then a month later told me they were back ordered, that was over 2 weeks ago. Oh well, probably staffing problems.....
On moon clips, I do not find the .035 to be reliable, so I'll only use the .042 / .043 clips. Wonder if others may have found the same thing, thus the reason mine are on backorder???

Ruger made a Buckeye Blackhawk convertible in 10MM=40cal/38-40 caliber. I don't believe it would function properly with 40S&W ammo being a single action. I own a S&W610 that will fire both 10MM & 40S&W ammo using moon clips.

The current run of 646's are not PC guns, though they come in a PC case. Special run iof 900 was made for RSR. You can find them for $470-$500.

I shoot 40S&W all the time from my 610

Funny thing those lawyer locks are

Asked the gun shop guy if he could remove it, and he kinda looked at me like,   just asked for the response, not cuz I wanted to buy it. Was tryin to sell me a airweight in .22 mag.........not my kinda caliber. Too much to plink with ($550) and too little for anything else. :barf:

I got one of the 2nd run 646s. I like it quite a bit and I'm thinking of having it reamed to 10mm. I contacted S&W about a spare cylinder to do this with in case I wanted to return the gun to new condidtion and they recommended purcasing a 686 cylinder to start from as no more TI 646 cylinders were available for sale and they seemed to think it would be strong enough, as long as I agreed not to sue them if it wasn't ;)

Has anyone tried the RIMZ moonclips in their M646?

I got a 10-pack of these recently and was wondering about their reliability in a M646. Any opinions?
