40 cal Kahr

So.....I gave my son the G35 I inherited from my father. Now I'm thinking about what to get in 40. A fella at work today showed me his Kahr CW40. He really likes it, it looked to me to a well made gun. I went to Kahr's site, and they sure have a lot choices in 40 caliber handguns! So I thought I'd ask y'all's opinions on Kahr.

I noticed that basically everything they make is single stack, unless I read things wrong. I'm a little confused on what they offer because they seem to have quite a few lines that don't look to be much different from each other. I'm guessing that this is because they have lower, middle, and higher priced lines?. Still, I wasn't able to see much difference between the CM and CW other than capacity. They have those two, the K line, PM line, etc. What's the difference?

I have an MK40 made when they first came out. It reeks of quality. Very accurate, been totally reliable. Bit heavy being a metal gun. But that's not bad when firing a .40 from a small gun. Trigger is a dream. Like a DAO revolver only much smoother and lighter. Polymer .40 is going to really bark I would imagine.

  • Elite= improved trigger
  • K= all steel, reliable, original design single stack, polygonal rifling (faster out of a shorter barrel, but no lead bullets)
  • MK= same as the K but smaller
  • T= same as the K but larger
  • P= same as K but polymer. Some of them originally had some reliability issues, and they may still have more issues than the K series (especially in .40)
  • PM= same as P but smaller, from what I've read I'm not sure I'd trust one in .40.
  • TP= same as P but larger
  • CW= same size as K and P series, budget cost cutting features (such as standard rifling)
  • CM= same as CW but same size as PM/MK

A friend had an MK9 Elite for a year or two which he traded on a PM9 which he eventually sold (he sold all his guns after a while). Both were terrific, reliable, accurate guns. I would't hesitate to buy any of their steel guns. Due to reported more common reliability issues I might look to other options in polymer, and if I got one it would be the PM9 and I'd definitely avoid the polymer .40s.

I had a CW40. Light, fit my hand well, and accurate with a great trigger. The down side was that it was horribly unreliable. I sent it back to Kahr 2-3 times in hopes of getting it corrected. No luck. I sold it (with full disclosure) at a loss.

It's positives caused me to give the K40 a try. Success!! All of the positives of the CW 40 (except lightweight) and it's been 100% reliable. It's earned my trust and has served me several years as one of my primary off-duty guns.

I own 6 Kahr pistols with 3 being in 40. I have the PM, K, and MK40. My edc is the pm40. My favorite is the k40 elite. Even though they all have the elite triggers, the k40 has the best trigger by far!

I had a P40. I really liked it. When I started holding my self accountable for split times, I realized I really couldn't shoot it fast an accurate.

So, I turned it into a Shield 9.
