4" Ruger blue Service Six

Been looking for a good Ruger. Ran across a blue 4" Ruger Service Six. Looks to be in great shape. Probably 90%. It doesn't even have a cylinder ring and is as tight as a drum. What would be a good price for this gun?
Thanks in advance.

The Six Series is a great line revolver, and folks who know them love them. I keep a stainless Security Six 6" by my bedside, matter of fact, althought it may be losing that job to one of my S&W K frames.

That said, for a blued Service Six, 4" model, in near excellent condition like that, as a buyer, I would expect to pay between $400-$475 in a private transaction, and probably close to $475-$550 in a retail setting. I would strongly consider buying it, as the Service Six doesn't seem to be as proliffic as the Security Six, and should show some appreciation in value over the coming years. They won't be like the Colt snake guns, but I can see them becoming more desireable to collectors.

Well .......I got the guy down to 450 total price out the door. I will probably pick it up tomorrow.

Also you may want to check the series prefix since the early model has much less options for changing grips. If i remember 580=less chioce than 581

I've had a 1982 (stainless) Security Six w/6" barrel now for about two years.
Mine is as tight as a brand new gp100 I was originally looking at and at about half the cost.
The final reason for buying the S6 was with the half lug, it just balanced better then either a 4 or 6 inch model gp100.
* trigger turned out to be pretty nice too.........at least as good as my near 25 year old S&W 617, that's had about 10k rounds thru it!:D

I picked up the Service Six on Friday. It has the wooden grips and it all looks like new. It is a 1977 model.

I've got a friend that has a 2 3/4" stainless that has offered to sell it to me. He will be back in town in the fall and has said he would bring it to me. It is a 1977 model as well. Not quite as nice as this one but still has original grips. It was his mom's before she passed away so I know it isn't hurt. Looking forward to having a pair. It will probably be an EDC.
