JPFO ALERT: CONGRESS SHAFTS SECOND AMENDMENT AGAIN

Well, they certainly didn't wait long, did they?

Alan Korwin, author of "Gun Laws of America" (
www.gunlaws.com ), recently alerted us to some ominous
activity taking place in Congress. Less than three weeks
after the 110th Congress convened, the Democrats have
already proposed four -- yes, FOUR -- new gun laws!

"The Child Gun Safety and Gun Access Prevention Act of
2007," H.R.256 ( http://tinyurl.com/3brx43 ) would raise
the minimum age for the ownership of a semi-automatic rifle
from 18 to 21. In addition, children under 18 attending a
gun show must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
Worse, it calls for fines and jailtime if a child gets a
hold of your firearm and uses it to cause death or serious
bodily injury, if you "recklessly disregarded the risk"
that a child could access your firearm.

More ludricrous is H.R. 428 ( http://tinyurl.com/38k7mk ),
entitled "To require the Consumer Product Safety Commission
to ban toys which in size, shape, or overall appearance
resemble real handguns." Yes, you read that right. The
Democrats are pushing the banning of _toy_ guns, if they
resemble real guns in size, shape OR overall appearance.

There's also "The NICS Improvement Act," H.R. 297 (
http://tinyurl.com/2q88lf ). NICS, of course, is the
national firearms background checks for the public required
by the Brady law. We'd like to tell you more about the
bill, but weirdly, no information on it has been posted on
the Thomas Locator site for Congressional legislation.

The most Draconian bill thus far, though, is "The Gun Show
Loophole Closing Act of 2007," H.R. 96 (
http://tinyurl.com/2m8vmr ). This misleadingly-named bill -
- a gun-hater's dream come true -- systematically destroys
not just the Second Amendment but a number of your other
rights as well.

Says Alan Korwin of HR 96:

"Under the original draft, currently legal gun shows are
outlawed without prior federal permission. Gun show
promoters must agree to warrantless searches in order to
operate, and may be arrested if private citizens talk at
the show about gun sales they wish to complete away from
the show. The right to assemble peaceably at a gun show or
even plan for one, carries stiff prison terms unless
federal licenses are issued in advance. I am not making
this up.

"Massive new bureaucracy is created because all shows and
their exhibitors must be registered 30 days before the
show, then again 72 hours before the show, and again five
days after the show. That's in addition to registering
anyone who walks in, plus "any other information" the
Secretary of the Treasury decides, by regulation, is
necessary on vendors, attendees, and the show itself."

This is just the beginning, folks. And we're in this alone.
You may recall that President Bush has declared his
willingness to sign any "assault weapons" bill that comes
across his desk, so we probably shouldn't expect too much
opposition to legislation of this type.

All of these laws, of course, will be enforced by our
"friends" at the BATFE. This begs the question: How many
wake-up calls, and how many knocks at the door do we need?
IF YOU HAVEN'T SUPPORTED THE MAKING OF OUR FILM _THE GANG_,
WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?

_The Gang_ ( www.jpfo.org/thegang.htm or
www.thegangmovie.com ) focuses on the arbitrary,
capricious, and yes, malicious activities of the BATFE. Our
goal is not to "reform" or "reprimand" the BATFE: we want
them OUT OF BUSINESS. We want to abolish ALL federal
control and regulations of firearms. _The Gang_ will help
us do that ... but we need you to help _The Gang_.

Please consider donating to this worthy cause. The
Democrats in Congress are not going to stop their assault
on our Second Amendment rights, and the Republicans don't
appear to be able or willing to fight them.

It's up to us.

Howdy all, new poster here, though I've meandered through the forums here a time or two. Stumbled over a link to this on another forum, figured I'd post it here even though HR 297 has been mentioned once, since there are a few other bills that need to be stopped, too.

Hope I've helped get some more word out.

Re:short Timer

Welcome!

Don't you all hold your breath waiting for a consevative voice out of Washington to say something about these proposed gun bills. In fact, don't wait for any republican response to anything that the Democrats want.

You would almost think that 100% of Congress is democrat.

I may be done buying guns for awhile. I think I'll save all my money for sandbags and ammo. If Hillary(ous) wins in 08', they'll be kicking down our doors.   We MUST e-mail and call our representatives now. Even the dems.

I've merged this with Alan's original JPFO alert (yeah, I know, there are now 2 posts with the exact same info) and kept the title of the second thread by ShortTimer as it was more descriptive.

Antipitas:

I believe, no matter whose "by line" this information appears under, no matter how many times it appears, that the importance of getting it out to "interested parties", active ones too, cannot be overstated.

A JPFO alert was the first place I saw it, I've since had an e-mail from GOA, which essentially duplicated the JPFO alert. As I said above, distribution of tis information is important. Next step is for people to raise hell with their elected things. Freedoms/individual rights are strange things. For want of use, they tend to get lost, just like muscle tone.

I wholeheartedly agree, Alan. That's why I didn't delete one thread over the other.

What makes this news, isn't the fact that many of these bills are repeats from previous sessions, but that the DNC pretty much said these types of bills were a non-starter. Are they? We shall see.

Even though he related stories about boys and their cap guns, Elmer Keith also stated that kids should not be allowed to play with toy guns.

I just emailed a letter to my Rep. to oppose H.R. 297, the first bill due up. Got my phone in one hand, and my other hand on the keyboard to start fighting. :)

Sry about the double post - I did check to see if there was already a thread on this, but must not have seen the other one when I put it up. D'oh!

WHAT THE HELL!!!

I'm 19 years old! How dare they try to take away my rights!

This is unbelievable. I'm gettin' ready for Operation Buy 'Em All. Starting with an AR-180B first, then Romanian AK in 5.45mm or 7.62, Mossberg 500 with pistol grip, and either a cheap FAL or CETME.

I'm simply another "member" here, no more than a now and then contributor. I would say however that a worse sin than duplication of material already posted would be, having available this information, to do nothing with it. Both JPFO and GOA sent alerts, I saw JPFO's first, later on I noticed GOA's dispatch.

Some duplications could cause problems. I do not think that that applies here, but that's just my thought. You might have a look at what Antipitas had to say, I believe his second post on this thread. Keep and aeye on thosre politicans, Democrats especially perhaps, however the Republicans have been known to stick it to gun owners too.

When it comes to Gun Control,, Republicans are becoming Democrats. It is not about our Rights, it is about power and who gets to say what. It is so simple, I am amazed so few get it

Republicans could have put through legislation ensuring our rkba forever. 12 years and they did nothing. They all scare me, and I tire of hearing them speak.
