3in shell in 2 3/4 in chamber??

I bought some buckshot today just for home defense. Unfortunately, got the wrong shells They chamber in my 1100 rem. Will they work? Will they mess up my gun? Will they blow up?

If your receiver and barrel are not marked for use with 3" shells, do NOT use them. While you may actually be able to shoot them, you risk serious damage to your gun and yourself.

If it's not a 1100 magnum made for 3" shells, they won't cycle. They will likely damage it.

shells are measured after the crimp is opened. a 3" shell will fit in a 2 3/4 chamber but if you shoot it, the plastic will open into the cone and create a very high amount of pressure that your gun is not made to handle. it dangerous, dont shoot them.

Go buy some 2 3/4" shells and save the 3" 'till you get a gun with a 3" chamber. It's not safe to shoot 3" shells in 2 3/4" chambers, and doing it would be kinda tough on the 1100 too, if it isn't a Magnum as indicated.

They will chamber because shotgun shells are shorter before they are fired. But, the chamber must have enough extra room to let the crimp unfold. If you were to fire a 3" shell in a standard chamber, the crimp would unfold into the bore instead of the chamber, creating a constriction too small for the wad and shot charge to pass through easily. The pressure spike would probably damage it.
