3in or 3 1/2in shells?

Hey, I'm currently trying to decide between a Beretta Extrema 2 3.5 or a 391 Urika. The Urika takes up to 3in loads and then Extrema up to 3 1/2in loads.

I'd like to have a fairly versatile shotgun that I can use for clays, quail, pheasant, dove, etc...

I'm mainly looking for pros cons of the different load sizes and chamberings. If there are some opinions on these two guns they are welcome too. thanks in advance.

I would get a 3 1/2 for sure because i hunt geese and large ducks but for what you are planning on using it for there is really no use or need for 3.5 inch shells... Also for some of your intended uses you will probably be using light loads and i have heard of 3.5" autos not cycling light 2 3/4" rounds that reliably.
 
defintaly get the 3 inch gun. 3 1/2 loads are for ducks and geese (maybe turkey, i dont know for sure). i have also heard of the 3 1/2 guns not cycling the light target loads.
 
The 3.5" loads have a beautiful pattern with the right choke...

I've fired 3.5" Remington #4 in High Velocity models through my 835 Ulti Mag (pump... yes you can cringe, I'll still out-skeet shoot you :D ) But the pattern is respectable even at 50 yards.

It will definately help you reach out and touch some geese, but remember they are magnum loads, and semi or not they still pack a little more punch.

And as some food for though: people have successfully hunted geese with a 20 gauge shotgun.

If you want the 3.5" and are not hell bent on semiauto get a pump gun cause my pump gun will eat 2 3/4", 3" and 3.5" reliably across all manufacturers.

They were right above because the action if it's meant to handle heavy loads will not be reliable on smaller loads... except heavy small loads like maybe heavy pheasant or heavy #9 skeet loads.

I will concur that 3.5" is great for turkey but shooting up at geese might get tiring and painful after a long day.
 
My SuperX2 3.5" shoots some one ounce loads and all normal target loads in 1 1/8th ounce and heavier.

I hunt waterfowl a lot, and I would not want to be without the 3.5" gun. If I wasn't a waterfowler a 3" gun would be just fine.
 
Thanks for all of the input. For what I anticipate using the gun for, I think the Urika will be plenty of gun. I definately don't think I'll need the magnum loads for any Upland game. Thanks again. Any more input will be welcomed!
